The trio of title winners top the list of World Cup players in the United States

SYDNEY (AFP) – Aja Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Bloom won’t have much time to recover after leading Las Vegas to their first WNBA championship.

The trio will board a plane to Australia to try to help the United States win the Women’s Basketball World Cup for the fourth time in a row. They will be in Las Vegas on Tuesday for a festive show and then take the long trip to Australia. The United States begins play on Thursday against Belgium.

The Triple Ace will be Connecticut teammates Alyssa Thomas and Breonna Jones, who were defeated in the WNBA Finals that ended on Sunday. Had the finals gone to Game Five, which would have been played on Tuesday, the roster would have been different.

Thomas and Jones should be present in time for the Belgium game, which takes place this morning in Sydney. The Aces players are expected to miss the US Opening Match.

Seattle teammates Jewell Lloyd and Brenna Stewart bring some experience to missing US teammate Britney Grenier, who is currently in a Russian prison after being sentenced last month to nine years in a politically charged drug case. The United States is working to secure her release.
