Prisco’s NFL Week 1 picks: Jaguars upset leaders, Chargers beat Raiders, Baker Mayfield tops former team

One game at a time. One week at a time.

Don’t look forward. It should be week after week.

It’s a season that spans four quarters, and the first quarter is the most important right now.

Speech coach. Don’t you love him? Well, it comes down to the choice of games as well. Getting off to a good start is essential if you want to stand any chance of having a winning season – and possibly winning it all. It’s also hard to get off to a good start. There is a lot of uncertainty, especially with all the changes in free agency and training every year.

Here are some tips for getting started quickly:

1. Do not pay attention to the pre-season. Does not mean anything.

2. Look for teams that bring back many veteran players to get off to a good start.

3. Passers-by and speeders. This is what the league is all about. Take those teams – especially early.

With that, it’s time for my first picks of the season. I will pick matches here every week, also for our price difference CBSSports.com Expert picks and I will once again make my best bets each week on Choose six podcasts.

Last year was a good season. Let’s get on with it. After all, I had a great season, I went into this season recovering from all my injuries and feeling confident that I can win everything.

Of course, I would choose it one at a time.

One winner each time.

Don’t look forward to this guy. Not when the first week’s disaster can ruin an entire season.

Latest possibilities:

RMS Los Angeles +2.5.2007

The host team exiting the Super Bowl was playing well in these games, moving 10-5-1. But I will resist that trend and take the bills to cover and win this game. The buffalo will be explosive on the attack all year long and start here. But the biggest difference is that they have von Miller and not the rams. It will mean a delay in the Bills game to win it.

picking 30 bills, 24 rams

Latest possibilities:

Atlanta Falcons +5.5.5

These two teams don’t like each other and it usually shows. The Saints are the better team, but what do they get from James Winston each week? Marcus Mariota starts the Falcons team. He can move, but the Saints’ Defense has a chance to be special. They’ll limit Atlanta’s attack here and Winston will do enough play on the field.

picking Saints 29, Hawks 13

Latest possibilities:

Carolina Panthers -1.5

This is the Mayfield Baker bowl. He’s the Panthers quarterback after being eliminated by the Browns in favor of Deshaun Watson, who is now suspended. Jacobi Brissett will start with Brown. Mayfield has plenty of skill talent around him and the young Panthers’ defense will be improved. Carolina wins it while Mayfield beats his old team.

picking Panthers 23, Browns 17

Latest possibilities:

Chicago Bears +7

This is Trey Lance’s first game as a great start to the 49ers quarterback. This can put a lot of pressure down the road. But the 49ers are clearly the better team. Kyle Shanahan will make it easier for Lance. Justin Fields will have problems behind a shaky Bears streak against a good 49-man defense. The 49ers win big.

picking 49ers 23, Bears 14

Latest possibilities:

Cincinnati Bengals -6.5

The Steelers play a division dog, a role Mike Tomlin did as a good coach, going from 14 to 6. There are concerns about the Steelers’ offensive streak, which is why that number is inflated. But Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been dealing with appendicitis before the start of the season, which can lead to some rust. The Steelers will hang out in this match, but the Bengals will win it in hindsight.

picking Bengals 23, Steelers 20

Latest possibilities:

Detroit Lions +4

The Eagles seem to have the ingredients for a deep break team. That’s if quarterback Galen Hurts can make big strides as a passer, which he supposedly did this off season. Each week, the Lions will be a tough, tough team, taking their coach’s personality. But facing this vultures attack will be a challenge to their defense. Hurts will get his season off to a good start.

picking Eagles 31, Lions 21

Latest possibilities:

Houston Texas +7

This will be Matt Ryan’s first game as the Colts quarterback after coming on a deal. Ryan can still light things up, which will be a challenge for the Texans defense. They can also bomb Jonathan Taylor. Davis Mills looked good for Texans late last year, who will be moving here. Look for a lot of points in a tight match.

picking Colts 31, Texas 27

Latest possibilities:

Miami Dolphins -3.5

The Patriots are in an unusual position like a road dog here. They’re coming out of an uneasy pre-season, while Miami is coming out pre-season full of Tua Tagovailoa’s hype. He has a lot of weapons and looks good, which makes it a great game for him. I think Mike McDaniel would quickly get the ball out to the playmakers and cause problems for a defense that wasn’t as talented as it was in years past. The Dolphins have defeated the Patriots three times in a row. Make it four.

picking Dolphin 24, Patriots 19

Latest possibilities:

New York Jets +7

This could be Joe Flacco starting with the Jets against his former team if Zach Wilson can’t come back from a knee injury. Flacco won the Super Bowl for the Ravens, but it’s been a long time since then. Lamar Jackson is back healthy after the 2021 season, and I think he’s off to a good start here. The Ravens have some quick questions, but they’ll beat them against the old quarterback. it’s close.

picking Ravens 26, Planes 23

Latest possibilities:

Washington leaders -2.5

This will be former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson who will take on former Eagles quarterback at Carson Wentz. The Jaguars beat Wentz and the Colts last year in the end, which is why he’s not in Indianapolis anymore. They will hit him again. The Jaguars defense has a chance to be really good, and it shows here.

picking Jaguar 21, Commanders 17

Latest possibilities:

Tennessee Titans -5.5

The Giants suffered an injury in their defense last week when Harold Landry fell to a ruptured ACL. This will affect the rush of the pass significantly. Giants coach Brian Dabol will make his debut here and should be able to create problems for this defense without Landry. The Giants will crush Derek Henry, but their passing game has problems. Giants will hang around this.

picking Titans 28, Giants 27

Latest possibilities:

Arizona Cardinals +6

This should be fun to watch with Patrick Mahomes taking on Killer Murray. It will be interesting to see how Mahomes goes without Tyreek Hill. Here’s an idea: it will be fine. Arizona corner lay shaky, which Mahomes would take advantage of here. The Chiefs will win a high score match.

picking Presidents 33, Cardinals 24

Latest possibilities:

Los Angeles Chargers -3

This game contains two teams who will pay for a playoff point and a division title. The Raiders beat the Chargers in the final last season to reach the playoffs. This time, it will be different. Home chargers with Khalil Mac’s addition to Defense will be able to slow Derek Carr’s pace. Justin Herbert is going to have a great day on the other side.

picking 30 Chargers, Raiders 21

Latest possibilities:

Minnesota Vikings +1.5.2

Aaron Rodgers has 13 touchdown passes and no picks in his last four games against the Vikings. But he went 2-2 in those matches. The difference this time around will be Green Bay’s defense. This unit has a chance to be special. The Vikings counter with an explosive attack, but in this crime the crime doesn’t roll like you’d like. Beams take it.

picking 24 packs, vikings 19

Latest possibilities:

Dallas Cowboys +2.5

These two enter the game with concerns about their offensive lines. That’s a problem for Tom Brady, who doesn’t move very well. Dak Prescott will be able to handle himself by moving around and creating problems out of pocket. The Cowboys would win a tough defensive match to start the game 1-0.

picking Cowboys 20, BOOK 17

Latest possibilities:

Seattle Seahawks +6.5

This is Russell Wilson’s return to playing for his former team, which makes this really interesting. The Seahawks are almost in rebuilding mode after being traded, but playing at home Monday night will make this a tough game for Wilson. I think the Seahawks are keeping it close.

picking 27 Broncos, Seahawks 23
