The Miami Dolphins will have to be at their best to defeat the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, so it wasn’t a great sign that Pro Bowl quarterback Xavien Howard left training Wednesday with a thigh injury.
Howard played 52 of the team’s 59 defensive shots in Sunday’s win over Baltimore and didn’t get injured in the press box.
Having to play without Howard or even get him at less than 100 percent would be a problem for Dolphins High, which is already without cornerback teammate Byron Jones, who is on the Reserve/PUP roster after undergoing hock surgery.
Howard was one of five players who did not train on Wednesday, according to the week’s initial injury report, along with left tackle Tyrone Armstead (toe), linebacker Melvin Ingram (veterinary rest), and tight ends Seitan Carter (concussion) and Hunter. Long (ankle).
Armstead played every shot in the victory in Baltimore having been limited in practice and was listed as questionable in the final Week 2 injury report.
Armstead also didn’t train last Wednesday, although his absence that day was marked as “Toe/No Injury – Vet Comfort”.
Carter and Long were both inactive against the crows. Carter was injured in the opening game against New England, while Long was injured in training late last week.
Cedric Wilson Jr., who sustained a rib injury in the fourth quarter of a victory at Baltimore Stadium, was one of two players on a limited roster in practice on Wednesday. The other was third-rounder Channing Tindall, who missed the Baltimore game due to illness.

TE Tanner Conner (knee), DT Raekwon Davis (knee) and FB Alec Ingold (shoulder) were all included in the injury report as full participants. All three played against Baltimore.
Billing Injury Report
Since they played Monday night, the Bills had a run on Wednesday and their injury report was based on an estimate of a player’s involvement if it was normal practice.
However, there were notable players listed as “not involved”, including defensive backs Micah Hyde (neck) and Dean Jackson (neck), narrow start-end Dawson Knox (foot) and former Dolphins tackle Jordan Phillips (hamstring).
Jordan Boyer, the other half of Buffalo’s elite safety tandem with Hyde, is listed as limited by a foot injury.
Others listed as Limited include WR Gabe Davis (ankle), DT Ed Oliver (ankle), C Mitch Morse (elbow), and DT Tim Settle (calf). Davis and Oliver Westtel were inactive in the Bills’ 41-7 draft win over Tennessee on Monday night; Morse was injured in the first half but returned to the game.
