Clemson coach Dabo Sweeney gets a raise, extending to 2031

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) – Clemson coach Dabo Sweeney has made a modified contract that will pay him $115 million over 10 seasons through 2031.

Swinney’s boosted contract comes on the heels of massive performances awarded to Nick Saban of Alabama, Kirby Smart of Georgia and Ryan Day of Ohio earlier this season. Swinney’s average annual salary of $11.5 million sits just behind Saban’s average compensation of $11.7 million.

The university’s board of trustees’ compensation committee approved the deal on Thursday.

Sweeney will earn $10.5 million this season, an increase of $2 million planned under his old deal signed in 2019. He will earn $12.5 million in the final year of the contract, 2031.
