All 30 Major League Baseball teams will play each other in one season for the first time in 2023

Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that it will play all 30 teams in a season for the first time in the era of overlap, as it released the schedule for the 2023 season.

As a result, the opponents of the division will play each other only 13 times – less than 19 times.

The new balanced schedule for 2023 includes each team hosting a three-game series or playing a three-game series on the road against each team from the corresponding league. Natural competitors – like metsYankeesAnd the DodgersAngels And the Cubswhite socks They will play each other four times, twice at home and twice on the road.

Previously, unlike natural competitors, teams would only engage in interplay against one division of the corresponding league. The changes mean that not every team will visit every city every year, but they all guarantee one series against every team from the other league.

In addition, teams will play one series at home and on the road – consisting of three or four matches – against teams from outside their league but in the same league. For example, the Mets will visit Milwaukee Brewers May 3-5, while hosting four matches on June 26 and 29.

“The new balanced schedule will include all 30 clubs playing each other in at least one series in 2023,” MLB Chief Operating Officer Strategic Officer Chris Marinac said in a statement. “This new format creates a more consistent rivalry between opponents as clubs compete on the post-season berths, particularly in the recently expanded wild card tour.

“In addition, this fan-friendly format offers fans the opportunity to watch more opponents’ confrontations, with a particular focus on expanding the most exciting matches between us, and provides more national exposure to star players throughout the match.”

The regular season begins on March 30 and ends on October 1.

Other advantages:

All 30 teams will play on Jackie Robinson Day on Saturday, April 15, including the Cubs who are visiting the Dodgers.

The Tampa Bay Rays The Dodgers will meet in Saint Petersburg in three games from May 26-28, in their first match against each other since the 2020 World Championships.

The St. Louis Cardinals The Cubs will meet in a series of two matches at the London Stadium on June 24-25, as previously announced. The All-Star Game will take place on July 11 in Seattle.

All 30 clubs will play Roberto Clemente on Friday, September 15th, including Pittsburgh Pirates Hosting the Yankees at PNC Park.
